Day 2
Kakheti – Bodbe – Sighnaghi – Gurjaani (Wine House Gurjaani) – Tbilisi (Airport)
After the breakfast, we shall depart in the direction of the wine region of Georgia, Kakheti. Fabled as “The homeland of grape wine”. First we willl pay a visit to a nunnery of Bodbe, place of pilgrimage for Orthodox Georgians & a burial place of St. Nino of Cappadocia. Saint maiden who contributed greatly in the Christianization process of the country. Later, King Mirian built a temple of St. George the Great Martyr around her tomb.
After visiting the final resting place of St.Nino, the group will reach to the jewel town of the region, Sighnaghi, which was erected by the last King of Georgia Erekle in 18th century. Town is surrounded by the impressive medieval wall with 23 towers. Today ancient Sighnaghi appears to the eyes of visitors in all its beautiful colors, buildings of which look just like decorations out of theatrical performance. Sighnaghi is an architectural gem of Kakheti region and a mecca of tourism in Georgia. After a tour in Sighnaghi, group will head towards the town of Gurjaani & visit “Wine House Gurjaani” (www.winehousegurjaani.ge).
After a brief rest, the hospitable hosts will acquaint them with the ancient tradition of winemaking and culinary arts. Group will get involved in confection of the Georgian national delicacy called “churchkhela.” They personally see and be able to take part in baking of Georgian bread “Shoti”. Then all the guests will be invited to the large hall, furnished in a typical Georgian style, a traditional Georgian feast led by the toastmaster “tamada” and accompanied by the Georgian folk songs & music awaits, right by the cosy fireplace. Late in the evening after the feast, departure towards Tbilisi International Airport.
